Individual, Couples, & Family Therapy

Mental Health Counseling in Salem, Oregon | Telehealth Statewide

Our Approach to Therapy

At Wholehearted Counseling, we believe healing starts with being truly seen. Our trauma-informed therapists offer individual, couples, and family therapy — both in-person at our Salem, Oregon office and via telehealth across the state. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship struggles, or the lingering effects of trauma, we meet you where you are with warmth, honesty, and deep respect. Every person's path is different, and we're here to walk yours with you.

Individual Therapy

Sometimes you just need a space that's yours, where you can be honest about what's really going on without performing, explaining, or holding it together. Our individual therapy sessions give you room to explore what's underneath the anxiety, the exhaustion, the patterns that keep showing up. Whether we meet in person at our Salem office or online from wherever you are in Oregon, your therapist will work with you at your pace using trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches tailored to your story.

Couples Therapy

When something important feels stuck or disconnected in your relationship, it can be hard to know where to start. Our couples therapists help you and your partner slow down, understand what's really happening beneath the conflict, and rebuild trust and communication. Sessions are available in person in Salem or via telehealth anywhere in Oregon, with flexible scheduling to fit both of your lives.

Family Therapy

Families are complicated, and that's not a flaw. It's just the reality of people who matter to each other trying to figure it out together. Family therapy at Wholehearted creates space for everyone to be heard, work through conflict, and strengthen the connections that hold your family together. We offer sessions in person at our Salem office and via telehealth throughout Oregon.

Therapy + Medication

Sometimes healing benefits from more than one path. At Wholehearted, our therapists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) work together so your therapy and medication care stay connected instead of happening in separate silos. Whether you're exploring medication for the first time or want closer collaboration between your prescriber and therapist, we make that easy. You don't need to be in therapy with us to see a PMHNP, but if you are, your care team is already in sync.

Our Core Specialties

  • Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression can show up in ways that are hard to name at first. Constant worry, emotional numbness, a heaviness that won't lift, or a restlessness you can't quite explain. Our therapists help you understand what's driving these patterns and build tools that actually fit your life, not just a textbook. You don't have to wait until things feel unmanageable to reach out.

  • Trauma, PTSD & CPTSD

Trauma isn't always a single event. Sometimes it's years of living in environments that didn't feel safe, relationships that required you to shrink, or experiences your body still carries even when your mind has "moved on." Our trauma-informed therapists work with both PTSD and complex PTSD using approaches like EMDR, IFS, somatic awareness, and person-centered care to help you process what happened at a pace that feels safe.

  • Relationship Issues

Relationships shape so much of how we feel, and when they're strained, everything else can start to unravel. Whether you're struggling with boundaries, navigating conflict with family of origin, processing a difficult friendship, or trying to figure out why the same patterns keep showing up in your connections with others, therapy can help you understand what's happening and what you need. You don't have to be in crisis to want healthier, more honest relationships.

Therapists who specialize in relationships: Ellie, Grace, Elizabeth, Lauren, Christina, Michelle

  • Grief & Loss

Grief doesn't follow a timeline, and it's not limited to death. Job loss, divorce, estrangement, miscarriage, lost identity, the end of what you thought your life would look like. All of it deserves space. Our therapists help you sit with the fullness of what you're carrying without rushing you toward "moving on." There's no right way to grieve, and you don't have to do it alone.

Therapists who specialize in grief: Anna, Ellie, Grace, Lauren, Christina, Michelle, April, Virginia

  • ADHD, Autism, & Neurodivergence

Whether you've carried a diagnosis your whole life or are just starting to wonder if your brain works differently than you were told it should, we're here for that exploration. Our therapists understand neurodivergence not as something to fix but as a different way of experiencing the world. We offer support with executive functioning, emotional regulation, burnout, masking, and building a life that works with your brain instead of against it.

Therapists who specialize in neurodivergence: Grace, Ellie, Elizabeth, Lauren, April, Rachelle

  • LGBTQIA+, Gender, & Sexual Identity

This is a space where your identity is not the issue to be solved. Our affirming therapists support LGBTQIA+ individuals, trans and nonbinary folks, people exploring their sexuality, and those in polyamorous or non-traditional relationship structures. Whether you're navigating coming out, family dynamics, gender transition, minority stress, or just want a therapist who gets it without you having to explain yourself, you belong here.

Therapists who specialize in affirming care: Grace, Lauren, Ellie, Elizabeth, Christina, Michelle, Rachelle

  • Perinatal & Postpartum

Pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood can stir up emotions that don't match what you expected to feel. Anxiety, sadness, rage, disconnection, identity loss. None of it means you're failing. Our therapists provide support through the full arc of the perinatal experience, helping you process what's coming up while honoring how much your world is changing.

Therapists who specialize in perinatal support: Ellie, Grace, Lauren, Erin, April

  • Substance Use & Addiction

If your relationship with substances has started to feel like less of a choice and more of a pattern, that's worth paying attention to. Our team includes clinicians with specialized addiction credentials (CADCI) who understand the complexity of substance use, including its deep ties to trauma, anxiety, and coping. We meet you without shame, wherever you are in your process, whether that's exploring your relationship with substances or actively working toward recovery.

Therapists who specialize in substance use: Rachelle, Erin, Ellie, April

  • Veterans & First Responders

The people who show up for everyone else deserve a space where someone shows up for them. First responders, veterans, and military families carry experiences that most people can't fully understand, and that can make it hard to ask for help. Our therapists who work with this community bring both clinical skill and genuine respect for what you've been through. We are in-network with TriWest, and we offer both in-person sessions in Salem and telehealth across Oregon.
