ABOUT Karen
Currently not accepting new clients
At this time, I am not accepting new therapy clients. However, I continue to offer consultation for therapists and write regularly about trauma, relationships, and wholehearted living on the Wholehearted Counseling blog.
Hello, I’m Karen Haag.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Wholehearted Counseling, a fully virtual private practice. My current focus is primarily on couples therapy, where I support partners who feel stuck in patterns of conflict, disconnection, or emotional distance. Drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I help partners understand the deeper emotions beneath their conflicts—what each person is really reaching for, and how to rebuild trust. Through understanding our core needs and interrupting automatic reactive cycles, couples can begin to move toward one another with more openness, safety, and emotional responsiveness.
I also work with individuals, especially those navigating the long-term effects of complex trauma, emotional abuse, anxiety, or low self-worth. Together, we explore how early relationships have shaped your internal world, including your sense of identity, safety, and belonging. I often work with protective parts that developed to helped folks survive, creating space for healing, clarity, and self-compassion to emerge.
My approach is rooted in feminist and humanistic values, and I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), always tailored to your unique needs and story. Wholehearted Counseling blog.
Our brains and bodies are wired for connection, and when we feel truly safe with another person, protective parts of us begin to soften. In therapy, we create the conditions for healing by building trust, co-regulation, and a space where your story can be held with care. My hope is to offer a relationship that helps you reconnect with your inner strength, listen more gently to yourself, and feel less alone in what you’ve carried.
